Hello, my name is Jacob Hogan. I grew up in Decatur, and graduated from Decatur High in 1991. I also attended the University of Alabama where I received a Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science and a Master’s degree in Public Administration. For over a decade, I worked in the public and private sector as a human resources executive, corporate trainer and recruiter. Since as long as I can remember, I have had a passion for helping others. In fact, I have been working with students as a teacher and tutor in either a part-time or full-time capacity for nearly 20 years. For the past 12 years, I have worked full-time doing test prep, specializing in preparing students for the ACT. All in all, I have worked with nearly two thousand students. I have designed and taught ACT and SAT classes, hired, trained, and managed test prep tutors and teachers, created ACT instructional material or tutoring, small group and classroom instruction, as well as designed a variety of programs for area schools. Nine years ago, I formed this company with the dream of making a difference in the lives of our youth by helping them get the best ACT score possible and as such get into college or get that scholarship they deserve.
In the end, I always tell parents that my goal is to see a student do their absolute best on the ACT, and if that means that they can get that elsewhere, than I will be satisfied. I just feel that the expertise I have developed, combined with my commitment to seeing to it that a student reaches their full potential, has placed me in a position to offer the very best ACT prep around. As the Founder and President of It’s a Test Thing… you can be assured that my company will always hold true to these ideals. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any member of our team with any questions that you might have. Thank you for taking the time to inquire into our services. I l look forward to hearing from you and the possible opportunity to work with you in the future.
Sincerely,
Jacob Hogan

Hello! I'm Emily Elizabethe Lewis -- but my students have always known me as Miss L. I grew up in a small town, and was the first in my family to go to college (an opportunity made possible only through academic scholarships that came from my own test scores). At the University of Alabama, I got degrees in my two great loves: English and Theatre. Since graduating, I've been teaching both for about five years in middle and high school settings. My specialties are English and Writing, of course, but a few years on the math team left me well-equipped for all subjects. Outside of teaching and tutoring, I love reading sci-fi and run a podcast with my best friend.
I know that there are a lot of people and a lot of companies out there that provide test prep services, most notably for the ACT. So, why should you consider utilizing our services? Well, I would hope that anyone that I have ever worked with would attest to three things that set us apart and that you can expect from It’s a Test Thing… First of all, I have and continue to be passionate about providing the very best quality instruction possible. Second, I have dedicated the past 15 years to making myself into an ACT expert. I have taken every test that I could get my hands on and continue to study this test looking for any possible insight that might help me better prepare a student for the test. Thirdly, anyone I have worked with, I think would tell you that once you work with It's a Test Thing..., you are like family. I always have been and continue to be absolutely committed to doing everything I possibly can to assist a student in reaching their maximum potential. I truly take to heart the saying, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”
